We have a very peaceful situation in India were diverse cultures, languages, people exist in a single country. We are proud of that when in a debate. For, in a debate you have to put maxima of positives of whatever you are defending. In other circumstances, we tend, we become natural human beings with hard feelings.Comparisons come up, questions of superiority and sub-ordinance are argued. Then somewhere in between if we lose the heat of argument and take it on a light note, cool the ambience with a laughter, then one round of fight is considered to be over.

State bank of India is the biggest bank, they say so. They are proud of it.But it is just due to government employees and government transactions that it is big. But a fact is fact. When we come to localisation of names, SBI follows any other in places especially Tamil Nadu. Here it is the ‘Pangu‘ (when written in Tamil, it can be read as pangu), which intelligent Tamil script decoders will read as Bank. The crazy part is that the Tamil people constantly preach that other south Indian languages exist because of Tamil. Tamil is the oldest, holiest……… (add as many adjectives and objectives as you please) language. If needed it could be enforced to make use of the Tamil word for Bank, but that did not happen. And we guys, include Tamils were laughing at why the SBI calendar was reading ‘Pangu’. We laughed non stop for 5 minutes. Really seriously, funny. An orthodox Tamilian not withstanding even his language-mate ( people who speak the same language!?) taking part in criticism sprang up. He said, “Tamilians speak the perfect English unlike other guys, especially Keralites. Tamil is the oldest language which is mother of all. The Kings of Kerala were Tamilians originally. Lord Ayyapa is Tamil, malayalees see Tamil movies, In many districts Tamilians are majority, Some of it must definitely be merged with Tamil Nadu, if not the whole of Kerala. “

The next sentence I genuinely thought he would say “Even English originated from Tamil” (Already the Chinese link is established ! (Boddhidharman and the movie 7am Arivu ?!)

The Tamil guy on our side is proper Tamil unlike the other guy, a Chennaite, he said that he faced problems when speaking English because he has been trained in tamil. ‘ Ba’ and ‘Pa’ are same, there are three ‘la’ :- la, lla, and la (actually ‘zha’ as in Thamizh).

When the Pangu business was over we pondered over why any language should have the script to represent all humanly produce-able sounds. If we take a refined language as Sanskrit , we cannot write Italy and read it as italy (were ‘ta’ stands out as hurdle), ‘zha’ was introduced in Hindi, but Northern guys of India struggle to pronounce. Considering all that we came to a logical conclusion that Malayalam has representation for almost all sounds, except ‘za’ as in zamindar, or zamzam the holy water.

For a language there are other considerations like it should have words to express emotions and things. English scores here. But there are multiple standards, American , British, Jamaican and what not!. Tanglish (refer Kolaveri) is another branch of united English (the language). Importing all the words avaliable in the world and having a script that is easily readable, that is specific sound for specific letter with no duplication or ambiguity, a language becomes better and adaptable. But putting a standard on it is like saying my english is better than yours because of so and so certification.

An hindi guy was studying technical subjects from a hindi book and I was surprised and shocked to see words like ‘padipath’ which means circuit. I had difficulty in dealing with this guy who wanted me to put everything in hindi, and excused himself that he couldn’t grasp english properly. This same guy was telling me later that in South India the usage of English in writing is wrong and he dwelled into the subtleties of the situation were ta, tha represented different sound when written in English and presented to a Southerner or Northerner. I tried to convince him that it is better to know the rule of land and then apply as required. Also, the old comedy story came to mind which I shared with him. I didn’t want to hurt specific Northerners so I omitted the name of states and said “When British ruled India thepeople had to sing the British anthem which begins as ‘God, Save the Queen”. When some ventured on and sung, it became ‘Shave the king’ instead and the other lot said ‘Same Same’(Actually they meant Shame). Listening to all these insults, the British left India and India became independent”.

The ultimate objective of any language is to facilitate communication. Those who fight over languages are tribal and barbarian. Those who see also see that there are people who use sign language and communicate and be happy and sad, the same as others do. Do you laugh at them because their language was recently developed? because it looks odd to look at their actions? , like some old chaplin movie without any dialogue?

Another pleasant day, another walk in. People gathered from all over the world. This time it is for experienced people. At koramangala we saw a happily silent crowd waiting for their chance. We see such discipline in queue at liquor shops (nothing bad intended). You wait for something patiently that you really want then better you behave properly, that is the gist. So we got tags, they had permanent tags saying that the person with the tag has come for interview. Pendrives are deposited at security and mobile camera is blocked by a sticker. Signs of good security all around. Then the sun peeped in penetrating the normally misty, cool, windy atmosphere. That is why you are supposed to bring resume, to block the sunlight. We stood in queue and then came announcement that people with more than two years of experience are plenty there, it will take some time to sort them out at the interview. They filtered people with less than two years experience and told that "there is more crowd than they could handle on the day, so please give the resumes so that we can call you at a later date."

So they are thoughtful in making permanent cards for people who come for interview. Good!.

http://bapasi.com/2011bookfair_DT.asp

The 35th CHENNAI BOOK FAIR – 2012 at St. George Anglo Indian Hr. Secondary School (Opp. to Paachayappan College)
Chennai – 30, Date: 05:01:2012 to 17:01:2012

Entry of Rs 5 does not fall hard on your purse, a single ticket can make you engaged for hours in the world of books. Lot of books on display . While Tamil books got the majority space, there were enough space for English also. Representation of Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam were found. It was comic to find that various publishers were selling books on competitive exams. Imagine a situation were you are not involved in competition, you see lot of general books, fiction , non- fiction, fantasy, literature, history and then stall which sells only competitive exam guides! Who wants them. Of course many people want and that is why they are there. But is book fair a good place for such a thing. May be yes may be no.

If you frequent Moore market and online stores for books then the book fair has little to it except the collection of Tamil books. If you are not keen on reading Tamil books then there is a stall which sells old English movies, classics.

While the display space is having fan, you don’t get enough air on the walk ways, it is not Air conditioned, and you will sweat.

Another intriguing display item is relating to spiritualism, you know Vivekananda and Gita press, in addition there are Islam book stall and yoga masters and self made guru’s teachings and practices available.

You get coffee, tea, juice and water for a price in the book fair. You are going to need these if you are going through the entire display, it is very vast.

Then came the core point of being in the book fair, APJ Abdul Kalam was visiting the book fair and delivering a speech at around 1700 hours(5 pm) . He talked in Tamil but you will understand if you are a fan. He told to read books, maintain a small library, let the library at home, so made, expand through generations. Read good books. Inspire others to read books.

At one point I almost felt that the whhole idea of educating people, which is making people understand words, read and write was implemented for the benefit of publishers. They can punch out anything, tell people that literate guys read and prosper others be around and die. But mostly the usage of learning alphabets is restricted to read boards and may be read movie and actor’s name. Even that can, if properly used, enlighten a person.

Then Abdul Kalam said” publishers should take care that they publish good material that will benefit the society”.

Yes! that was a good message for them.

All said the missile man of India left the fair, the crowd without second thought left too. Others who wanted to speak had lesser audience to deal with, as expected.

The examination for probationary engineers in Madras Fertilizers Limited, Manali , Chennai was conducted on 8th Jan 2011 FN. So many people skipped breakfast and landed in this place, out of choice or out of lack of options. The nearby shops got their fortune in Sunday as many turned surprised at the crowd. The boy at nearby bakery got some sales experience. I asked him whether he goes to school, he said he is in 7th standard. But unfortunately his classteacher or teachers don’t care enough about their students. This boys fingernails were grown and had lot of dirt accumulated. I went to a supermarket in search of a nail clipper, but it was not available. I didn’t see this boy licking up the newspaper pieces, or spitting or worse putting his fingers into nose. The crowd was not considering all these trivialities. The job at hand was to pass the exam, or finish the exam at least. People from all over the world was there, these exams should be given a national importance and the companies be given award for initiatives on national integration.

Some people had not received the admit cards, the officials distributed it. The exam invigilator calls every guy "Sir" but girls don’t get the same treatment though the invigilator is a women. Privileges of and engineer and gender discrimination can be a topic of study. We "bubbled" the exam with pen though the admit card told us to bring pencils, eraser and sharpener.

The exam was having 100 questions 2 hours. GK, English, quantitative aptitude and technical subject of specialisation.

Over all the wait for exam after applying was long, so the result is not to be expected soon. And those who are average never expect result , because the crowd was that large.

Of times it is highly necessary to follow the crowd to understand the rhythm. The tempo of thoughts, the value of deeds and the freedom of speech. There cannot be a second thought when it comes to analysis, it almost always is biased. But that is necessary ingredient of analysis. Be biased, debate on both sides are required for a healthy analysis. Too many biased comment will let a reader tell good from bad, wrong from right and let him understand that primarily the whole thing is a game, a drama, a not noteworthy saga.

Kolaveri song has captured attention. They say it is a Tamil song, some say it is Tanglish. I say it is English. It is as much a Tamil song as Chammak Challo is a Hindi song. We all love a messed up business. We need everything be it drums, melody, techno, bass, pop, classic and what not. English albums mix Spanish. Hindi mixes English. Tamil songs gets mixed with Telugu English Hindi and Malayalam. A devotional song can become a rock overnight and vice versa. It is not so much important to know why we like something. Just like it.

But after hearing it for long. It is like chanting some prayer when the lyricist did a bad work and included the same word a hundred time. Good references for this are most Hindi songs- Falak Tak Chal Sathi Mere, Chammak Challo etc . After meditating on the song throughout the day, it is natural to analyse. Why? What? are the questions that come up the most. It is more interesting to see music reviews on lyrics while people scratch their heads and pull the hairs to get some comprehensive message out of a hit make of song.

What is meant by Chammak Challo?

Why is Kolaveri song famous?

Why it just sounds like another folk song with an upbeat tempo with some techno added but still plays back incessantly at unexpected times?

Why other folk songs are not this famous?

Why Akon? How it would have been if it were Michael Jackson?

Why Hrithik Roshan did not dance for Chammak Challo?

How the mind is free to let Hrithik and Michael to dance for the Kolaveri or any folk song?

humans as creative beings are bettering themselves through imagination. Reading a book definitely gives freedom to dress Harry Potter in Dhothi and Voldemort to have beard.

let the creativity unroll, free of cost.

Only time matters
