Monarchs of the modern world, a wild fantasy of United States media

If you are like me, working with engineering skills and observing the ever-growing technology world. Then it is easy to see the elephants of the technology world, through regular media, who indulge in providing with thoughts and reasons of the champions running for the cause of technology. However, being an observant, for some time, will showcase the poverty of the media, where they stick with one person and keep boosting their news and opinions.

Historically, we can see from the US media lens, which shows to the world, of its unquenchable thirst for development in technology and focus on technology leaders. Listing the last three can clearly give us an idea- Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. One may argue that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were co-existent in time. They way they were projected directly seem to depend on their influence on the industry, which may be correct. While Bill Gates changed his role from being technology leader to charity after Microsoft saga. Steve Jobs was prominent in media.

Google Search Trends for Bill Gates is here.. to help us.

Comparison of Monarchs

Google Trends shows us the popularity of the searches. Here I am comparing three names and the peaks for red (Steve Jobs) subside peak for blue (Elon Musk). While being alive may be a factor to create news. It is also noted, that co-occurrence is not. We do not find a Yellow peak anywhere in last 5 years.

Media therefore projects a single leader, as a representational head or say Monarch of the technology world to be followed. That is a trend with US media atleast. Elsewhere, we can discuss about politicians, while here my concern is about the technology leaders. Having paid/unpaid media projection of a single leader, is not conducive to the environment of technology industry. How many companies exist ? And work hard every second to bring new technologies and utilities to the smart-phone carrying person (not a common man). Some appear in media, some do not. However, the US media seems to be programmed to project a higher level of focus on some select individuals. So is Steve Jobs a role-model for the young teenager who wants to start a company? No, human mind is super-industrious, it will find its own way to its destiny. With media or no, there are amazing levels of talent and great unsung leaders at every desk. They need no media. Their work shows their spirit. The best a young techno-entrepreneur can do may be sit up straight, avoid the mainstream media to remove the unwanted influence of the modern monarchy in their current work, and slog away in their paths to success.

“Sharing” work in the Internet

Show Your Work!: 10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered

This post is a book review for “Show your work” by Austin Kleon

This is the TVC that comes first to mind about “sharing”

Like the boy in ad, whatever our age, we do “sharing” for personal need/satisfaction/benefits , knowingly or not.

Austin talks about the value in sharing work online, establishment of personal brand, to associate with a specific like minded group to enhance total creativity for the larger public.

How much should be shared?  What is there to hide in sharing ? What are the benefits ? and What sharing can get me? are some of the questions that find definite answers in this book.

This book iterates many things told, foretold and untold. And this time, it is not boring. Because, the coherency of writing and rigorous titling has made this book a simple to read, easy to understand and remind oneself of the important concepts of work.

I found only a few sections out of the rail. Especially what / what not to share. There is no hard and fast rule. If one can attain nirvana by posting dog pictures, and if dogs are your passion and work, why not!?

Key point the book discusses and worth remembering are easily codified into the chapter headings. This includes telling our work-stories in moderation for public consumption (sharing) for potential collaboration. Let the critics scrutinize, this is valuable addition beyond the personal-critic hat that we ought to wear. In this way, one work can lead to another and keep the work-life in tact,  and let the cashflow sustain that interest. Any work involves creativity and art. There is value to be shared, useful for other, for copiers to copy, for innovators to improve and for collaborators to converge.

All these components lets the body in the state of motion, bringing new directions, perspectives, increases the social connection, building networks that increasing the gross creative output.

Anna Hazare , the news, the hunger, the strike and the ignorance

Anna I enquired whether it is a he /she? Whether it is related to TN elections? And what is that bizarre second name?

The phenomenon, Anna Hazare captured media, a slight semblence to Nehru with his Nehruvian hat and appearance with  a seemingly innocent smile. An interviewer asked Anna Hazare why he would not contest in elections and change the system. Anna H answers that the way he did was the way he could do. He cannot be a politician and get corrupt.

This is another way of blaming the other side. What the social worker sees is the tip of iceberg ,he says yeah there is lot under it that is causing trouble, making Titanics sink. That is bad the people need a bill. Not a hotel bill or other bills of payment, but the Lokpal bill. That word “Lokpal” excludes the power to gather all people around. How many people understand what “Lokpal” means?

I personally had to search for it . Newbies scour and findout something like this http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/what-is-the-jan-lokpal-bill-why-it-s-important-96600

And something is here http://www.annahazare.org/

The old chap with a new pose for his photo in that website, i perceive, can’t bring a change. Media and related people, yes  they have to follow ( I have seen the hindi flick ” Peepli live” and the malayalam movie ” Swa. Le”) . BJP praises him while there is no news that the Congress INC had  a say on it ,NCP did.

Wikipedia boasts about him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Hazare but fails to  impress me.

The fast began on April 4-5, around those days, and the news got some wide reputation when it ended by April 9. That a hunger strike of 4-5 days can make a hero doesn’t sink in the mind as fast as the news media was flashing it.

I have heard that the poverty and living standards in the MP and some northern places is comparable or even worse than the third world countries. So our sub-continent is 3 worlds in one, the super metros including bengaluru, the developing places like Kochi and the sub-standard low-class country-sides. People live with hunger and there is no strike good enough to capture attentions that will alleviate the problems that come  as parcel with poverty and hunger, ignorance and intolerance. It is very interesting that one man  Anna can make volntarily mass movement, and still more fact of wonder is that the government  notices that.
